Find somebody to chase
Carry a book everywhere
Fly Spirit Airlines at your own risk
I run a private mastermind where a few of us leave town and hunker down to figure out life.
Last weekend we braved Spirit Airlines and headed to Puerto Rico. Spirit Airlines is the Walmart of the skies. Well, maybe the Piggly Wiggly of the skies. Whatever it is, it is an experience. I can’t imagine being a flight attendant in that madness. Most people are wasted or eating half chickens on their laps or both. The seats don’t bend, there is no TV, and it is a miracle if the flight leaves on time. Sure, the flight only costs $10 but if you want to sit down, breathe, drink water, or carry a bag on the plane it costs an extra $500.
Anywho…
There were four of us. Ilene flew Delta because she has a brain.
The new guy was our buddy who looks like Thor. Literally. We were at dinner one night and the waiter said, “I hope this is not offensive to you, but you look like Thor.”
I would be greatly offended if somebody said I looked like Thor. The nerve of some people.
Anyway, our buddy is 6’5” and shredded. He also got his ears pierced on night two. That was not on the mastermind agenda.
This brings me to a challenge I posed to the group during the mastermind...
Who are you chasing?
I believe we all need to be chasing someone. I am chasing my buddy who looks like Thor. It motivates me to work harder on getting in shape. In my mind, I am chasing him.
If he can, I can.
Note: I will not get my ears pierced.
I am also chasing Anthony Bourdain who turned his passion into best-selling books and a show where he traveled around the world telling stories.
If he can, I can.
Which brings me to the book idea. The brains of our group posed a challenge. A challenge to carry one book everywhere we go that represents what we are trying to achieve next in life. Why? Because it creates conversations with strangers and is a reminder of the damn thing we are trying to achieve. Pretty smart idea.
So, I bought Anthony Bourdain’s book and am carrying it everywhere I go for the next couple of months. I want to do what he did (sans the premature death). I don’t want a premature death. Ew.
If someone asks about the book, I will have to explain why I have the book which will create conversations around the very goal I have and potentially lead to a connection that might further our progress on the said goal. Make sense? As much sense as Spirit Airlines, I guess. Great.
So…
Who are you chasing?
If you are CEO, what CEO are you chasing? If you are a speaker, what speaker are you chasing? If you are a swimmer, is it Michael Phelps? He is good at swimming fast.
If you are trying to do anything, who are you chasing that does it the best?
and…
What is the book that represents what you want next in your life?
Buy it and carry it around for a couple of months as a daily reminder of your goal and a prompt for new conversations with folks who might be able to help you get there.
Hurray. There you go. All your problems solved.
Trey
PS. We will be inviting more people to join our masterminds in 2024 so if you want to join one, holler back. You don’t have to fly Spirit.
