March Forth
I bought a ticket to Ecuador for $215 round trip. I leave on March 16th. Sure, I have never heard of the airline and the layover is probably in Russia but it was a hell of a deal and I like deals.
Plus I have a rule and rules are rules.
Ten years ago I set a new rule for my life. A rule that involves the one thing I love more than anything else.
Then I booked a ticket to India. When I landed the immigration dude asked me what hotel I was staying in…
I don’t know I replied
He looked at me like I had brain damage. Then he asked again.
I don’t know I replied.
Well, to make this short, I finally said Mariott because he was not going to stamp my passport and Marriot was the only hotel chain name I could think of.
He let me through. I stayed in a hostel for $8. It was horrific.
Note to reader: when I travel I don’t plan anything.
Another note to reader: never go to India without a plan.
I spent the next five days lost in the madness of New Delhi then cracked and hauled ass back to the airport to buy a ticket to Thailand. India is no joke.
Oh yeah, the rule…
I will never be in the United States on my birthday ever again.
And I haven’t…aside from the first year of covid where I stayed in my 400 sq foot loft staring at a wall all day.
Thailand, India, Senegal, Jamaica, South Africa, Bali, …etc.
So, I am going to Ecuador this time.
Have I planned anything in Ecuador? No.
The only thing I know about Ecuador is …
It’s not India…
And…
They grow more bananas than anywhere else in the world.
Sold. See you there.
So, I am going to try and find a banana farm, convince the farmer to rent me a room for a couple of days, and write the first sentence of my next book.
I think that will be pretty cool.
March forth!
