The room was cold.
I arrived first. I always arrive first. There was a backpack on the table. It had a Delta Diamond membership tag, so I figured he was successful. It was also leather. Dudes with leather bags are always successful. I guess.
Two dudes eventually walked in and the three of us sat down at a small conference table. The guy on my left is a two-time best-selling author and business wizard. He is also one of the top speakers in the world. The guy on my right is tall, worth a quarter of a billion dollars, and created an app with 14 million downloads. He is also 10 years younger than me and went to MIT and other fancy colleges.
Have you ever been in a room where you felt like a pebble amongst boulders? Me neither.
WTF am I doing in this room, I thought. Then I remembered because I am magic. That’s why.
Part strategy, part methodology, part science, and part magic. That is what we do in these rooms. The client is the tall guy. He has a story so insane you wouldn’t believe me if I told you. It includes winning the Rose Bowl, Tom Cruise, the CIA, corruption, a plane crash, and the Catholic church.
“I never wanted a personal brand,” he started. “I like living a private life.”
Well, buckle up young fella.
In this new season of life, I am a personal branding strategist. The tall dude wants a personal brand. The other dude is a genius. So, we spent nine hours in a room creating magic. The kind of magic that has a global impact. This pebble is now helping create a ripple of global change.
One key to life is the rooms we are in and the people in those rooms. Better rooms, better life.
We learn in these rooms. We build relationships in these rooms. We grow in these rooms.
The tall dude was an advisor to the past two presidents. Good rooms. He also told me if I spent five minutes with Tom Cruise, I would understand why he is so amazing. Another good room.
My life reflects the rooms I have been in. Classrooms, yoga rooms, bar rooms, business rooms, small group rooms, and family rooms.
Oh, and the one room that was a jail cell in Mexico but that is a different story for a different time…
Find good rooms. Get in them.
Trey
What a room!
